Comments:
    This is a period of the world's history which is not generally accepted by historians.  This is possibly because it does not easily fit into the commonly held world-view - that of the earth's gradual development through the process of evolution. 

However, it is interesting to note the presence of "flood myths" in many ancient cultures and traditions.  A good example of this is found in the Gilgamesh Epic (link goes to external site), detailing the story of King Gilgamesh of Uruk and that of his friend Enkidu.
