Ezra 7:1 calls him the son of Seraiah and gives a genealogy back to Aaron which skips some steps. He was a grandson or great-grandson of Seraiah, see notes on Seraiah's other descendants.
Exod 6:17; Num 3:18-21; 26:58 1 Chron 6:20 skipped in 1 Chron 6:43. NOTE that though the SDA Bible Dictionary does not make this note, in the Bible Commentary on 1 Chron 23:7 it is stated that he is the same as Laadan.
1 Chron 6:20 here father of Zimmah, son of Libni (who was son of Gershom). 1 Chron 6:42,43 here father of Shimei (who was father of Zimmah) and son of Gershom.
1 Chron 6:20 here listed as father of Joah, son of Jahath. 1 Chron 6:42 here listed as father of Ethan, son of Shimei (who was son of Jahath) 2 Chron 29:12 where he is the father of Joah in the time of King Hezekiah, but if this verse means ancestor, then it is probably the same person.
